WOL Contests and Tournaments

At Warriors of Light, we’ll have game setups, and various contests, including game tournaments. Here is our lineup of what you can enter as a Warriors of Light attendee.

Final Fantasy Name That Tune

Start Time: 6:00pm, Main Stage

Description: If you are at Warriors of Light, chances are good that you love the music of Final Fantasy. But how well do you know it? We play a track, you name the game it’s from. Test your knowledge in THREE time-attack rounds with different themes. The winners get entered in a Final Round to win prizes and a championship plaque!

Rules:

  • There will be three (3) preliminary rounds and a final round.
  • The winner of each preliminary round will be entered into the final round.
  • Each round will be six (6) minutes long.
  • A track will play, you must raise your hand before anyone else to guess the game the track came from.
  • If you guess the track correctly, you get a point.
  • The person with the most points at the end of the round wins the round.
  • Each round will be uniquely themed. Study up on your Final Fantasy soundtracks!

Description: We’ll have two (2) video game tournaments during the first half of Warriors of Light. Each tournament will have a cash prize and an award plaque for the winner.

General Rules:

  • Signups for each tournament will start at 5:00pm and end 15 minutes prior to tournament start.
  • Entry fee for each tournament will be $5. This will go toward the prize pot.
  • Ongaku Overdrive will provide a $100 pot bonus for each tournament.
  • Controllers will be provide for each tournament, but you are welcome to bring your own.
  • All tournaments are single elimination.
  • 1st place will get 70% of the prize pot and prize plaque. 2nd place will get 30% of the prize pot.
  • Pausing the game at any time during a match results in forfeiture of the round. This rule may be ignored in cases of inevitable defeat, in which the the game is paused during a round ending move involving no more input by the player. (Solely at judge’s discretion if there is a player dispute).
  • If you are entered into multiple tournaments that possibly happen at the same time, please notify your tournament judges to avoid any DQs.
  • Coaching is allowed with One 30 second coaching break in a set before games. Coaches must be named before their matches. Coaches are not allowed on stage next to their players during a match. (Subject to change).
  • Collusion of any kind with your competitors is considered cheating. If the Tournament Director determines that any competitor is colluding to manipulate the results or intentionally underperforming, the collaborating players may be immediately disqualified. This determination is to be made at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director. Anyone disqualified in this manner forfeits all rights to any titles or prizes they might have otherwise earned for that tournament.

Chocobo Racing

Start Time: 6:30pm, Video Game Area

Rules:

  • Game will be played on Playstation 2.
  • Mode will be Versus.
  • 3 Laps per Race
  • 3/5 Races Per Match
  • Winner must keep character, but can change power-up
  • Loser may change character and power-up
  • Random stage select. (players may opt for an agreed stage)

Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring

Start Time: 8:00pm, Video Game Area

Rules:

  • Game will be played on Playstation 2.
  • Mode will be Arcade Versus.
  • Rounds will be 60 seconds
  • 3/5 Rounds per Game
  • 3/5 Games Per Match
  • Winner must keep character
  • Loser may change character
  • Random stage select. (players may opt for an agreed stage)
