Ongaku Overdrive proudly presents the biggest Virtua Ongaku concert lineup ever on Sunday, May 22nd, LIVE on our Twitch channel. May is Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and we will be raising money to benefit Asian Pacific Fund. The mission of Asian Pacific Fund is to strengthen the Asian and Pacific Islander community in the Bay Area by increasing philanthropy and supporting the organizations that serve the most vulnerable AAPI community members.

We will be using Tiltify as our fundraising platform and there will be a prize raffle at the end of the show for those who donate. You can make your donations here.

Musical Lineup

Shubzilla & Bill Beats: NOIR GRIME

Shubzilla and Bill Beats are a rapper/DJ duo based in the Pacific Northwest, and part of the NOIR GRIME family. They began working together in 2011, and after releasing the single “Wonderful World” for Bill Beats For President Vol.1, the pair have gone on to release EPs Dinner And A Movie, BOOMERS, and BOOMERS Vol. 2, The Kong Quest, and most recently The Belmont Tapes. Shubzilla and Bill Beats have Emerald City Comic-Con, MAGfest, PAXWest, and Norwescon under their belts, as well as tours with mc chris, Kadesh Flow, and EyeQ. With Shubzilla’s frank and aggressive lyrics and Bill Beats’ penchant for samples and bass-heavy compositions, they do not disappoint.

The Limit Breakers

Based in Jacksonville, Florida, The Limit Breakers are a video game tribute band that performs in many different styles from rock to pop, jazz fusion to electronic and everything in between. The Limit Breakers are a new band, and this will be their first concert performance!

                      

 

Ryako

Ryako is an Asian-American-Belgian, one-woman band based in Brugge, Belgium. She writes, produces, and performs primarily nerd-inspired electronica and hip hop music, but also enjoys blending that with other genres in order to create something different and unique. Ryako has performed for the first time at the unofficial Nerdcore Showcase at SXSW in 2019 and was the co-winner of the most recent Nerdcore VPC with Kadesh Flow.

                    

 

Arc Impulse

Hailing from Chicago, Arc Impulse is a high energy band that rearranges classic video game tunes into hot new synth rock tracks. Most recently, Arc Impulse has released their Final Fantasy VI album, World of Ruin.

            

 

Ian Martyn

Ian has been playing music since he was young. Inspired by his elementary school music teacher, an ethnomusicologist, he started to play music by leaving Final Fantasy VI running in the background and playing along to the game on the piano. He has since learned several other instruments over the years including bass, bodhrán, bouzouki, smallpipes, and concertina. He has spent a large part of his life studying Irish traditional music. Ian has been a session singer and guitarist for a number of professional recordings for movies and television. He is also a club DJ and travels frequently to perform in a variety of different venues. He received his M.A. in Ethnomusicology from UC Davis in 2013. Ian plays Irish whistles from the collection of Frealon Bibbins. Ian plays an Irish bouzouki and mandolin by Macdara Ó Faoláin.

               

 

AnimeVivi

Joe Chen is a wireless engineer and violist based out of San Antonio, TX. Classically trained, Joe has played in multiple orchestras over the past 20 years. He currently serves as principal violist of Symphony Viva. He also has releases covers of video game music and anime on YouTube, Spotify, and other platforms as “AnimeVivi.”

                

 

Bitforce

Classic cartoons, video games, movies, and anime, nothing is off limits for the musical stylings of Bitforce. These 8-bit warriors don light-up armor to use their music to go to war with a multiverse of villains, both well-known and original. Join the fight to defend Earth from the evil forces of the multiverse. Lend them your voice! Lend them your strength! Join the Bitforce!

                  

 

Jer Roque

Jeremiah “Jer” Roque is a versatile pianist and arranger who specializes in video game music. Rather than being hyperfocused on a single genre of music, he infuses elements of classical, jazz, pop, and rock into his pianistic interpretations of video game music. Jer collaborates with musicians all over the video game music community, and currently performs with Marshall Art & Playing With Power!. In the past, he’s performed with Arc Impulse, The Spoony Bards, & chocoBop. His music can be found on projects such as Chronicles of Time, Shenmue Piano Collections, Pixel Mixers, OverClocked ReMix, and Dwelling of Duels.

Prize Raffle

There will be a raffle around 10:45pm EST, after the final act. There will be multiple prize drawings and each of those winners will be contacted by us. For every $5 donated to the event, will be an entry into the raffle. So if someone donates $25, that will be FIVE raffle entries! These donations will benefit Asian Pacific Fund.
